Gettysburg Memorial Day Campout & Hike

(May 24-26, 2024)

Troop 680 recently embarked on a journey to Gettysburg, where history and adventure are intertwined.   Arriving late on Friday, the Scouts had to pitch tents at night and rest for the day ahead. Following breakfast, Scouts drove to the Gettysburg Museum.   After a short movie, the Scouts got to see the mesmerizing Cyclorama at the Gettysburg Museum, which brought the pivotal battle to life.  The Scouts then headed out on a 4-mile hike that took them to Culps Hill, where they got to climb to the top of the observation tower and see an amazing view of the battlefield.  The next day, the Scouts went to the top of the Longstreet Observation Tower, which gave them the opposite view of the battlefield.   The Scouts then hiked 6 miles to many different monuments and places on the historic battlefield, including Devils Den, Big Roundtop, Little Roundtop and the Highwater Mark.  Although Little Roundtop was closed due to construction, the Scouts hiked around the base.  The Scouts also climbed to the top of the Pennsylvania Memorial for another overlook of the Gettysburg Battlefield.  Additional photos are available to Scout families on the restricted pages.
