Accotink Bay Districy Camporee

(October 16-18)

Troop 680 attended the annual Accotink Bay District Camporee the weekend of October 16-18.   This year's event was held at Gunston Hall, the historic home of George Mason, author of the Virginia Declaration of Rights, which later became the basis of the Bill of Rights.   It was a very fitting venue for a Camporee whose theme was "America 250 - Building the Revolution".  At the Camporee Patrols from the Troop visited several stations where they learned and were tested on various Scout skills including first aid, lashing, and navigation.  They also learned about HAM radios at the Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) tent, where they spoke with people in several parts of the world.  Troop 680 also took top honors among the Troops attending for best campsite, an honor the Troop has not won at a Camporee for about 7 years.  Congratulations to our Scout in Charge, Liam M., and SPL, John A., for a job well done.  Troop 680 also took top honors at the giant slingshot catapult lashing station, with one Patrol coming in 1st place and another coming in 3rd place.  All-in-all, it was a glorious weekend and the weather was perfect after a brief rainstorm Friday night and light drizzles early Saturday.

• • November 1 - Regular Troop Meeting at Good Shepherd at 5:00 PM.  The meeting will focus on planning for the spooky backpacking trip (November 7-8).

  • November 8 - Possible PLC at 5:00 PM at Northrop Hall.

  • November 15 - Summer Camp selection meeting at 5:00 PM at Good Shepherd.

  • November 22 - Duty to God meeting with Father Tom at 5:00 PM at Good Shepherd.  The Troop will complete an activity selected by the Chaplain's Aide from those offered by the National Catholic Committee on Scouting.

  • November 28-29 - Wreath selling at Good Shepherd after all masses.

  • November 29 - Alternative date for PLC (virtual)

• January 9-10 - Overnight Adventure on the USS Torsk.  Please note, space is limited because we are doing this as an overnight experience with the Pack 680 AOLs
